-
LAMBPLAN across flock analysis where Coora has one of the highest
percentages of sheep in the top 100 rams and ewes on the analysis.
View Coora's LAMBPLAN
highlights and progress.
-
Entering Ram Trials where sheep are all run together and measured
for wool growth (value) and growth rate (estimated carcase value).
In the final trial in 1995, Coora was placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd out
of 77 rams entered from 23 different studs.
-
Entering Production Classes at Shows. eg. At the Melbourne Associated
Sheep Breeders Show 1997 there were production classes for 1 year
olds and 2 year olds. In the class for one year old rams, Coora entered
two and came 1st and 2nd for carcase value and 1st and 3rd for fleece
value. In the class for two year old rams, Coora also entered two
and came 1st and 3rd for carcase value, and 1st and 2nd for fleece
value, and was winner of the Geoff Shannon Memorial Class. With the
introduction of the LAMBPLAN classes Coora has not entered the classes
based on raw data but has concentrated on the classes that utilise
the more accurate genetic evaluation of ASBVs.

Showing in traditional classes at shows. Coora has exhibited the
"Best shorn Corriedale Ram" at Hamilton Sheepvention for
the four years 1994 to 1998.
-
Coora rams are currently being compared with other breeds in the
Agriculture Departments Maternal Breed trial.
-
Coora again won 1st and 2nd best Corriedale Rams fleece at the 2009 Hamilton
Legacy Fleece show making this the 12th time in 13 years. Coora is
proud to support this show as it is the major fund raiser for Hamilton
Legacy. They get the proceeds of the sale of the wool.

Coora is dedicated to improving both the performance of the Corriedale
breed and the accuracy of the ASBV's used to measure this performance.
To this end Coora is a member of the ACA Performance Sires Group (PSG)
of which Jim was Inaugural Chairman and Midge Secretary. Others in
the group are Wal Jenkin "Nayook South" (Present chairman),
Tony Hunt Treasurer and Jan Hunt "Wye", Tony Manchester
"Roseville", Richard Archer "Quamby Plains", Peter
& Claire Blackwood, "Blackwood" The PSG oversees the
Trans Tasman analysis for the ACA. and also runs the Performance Sires
Program which aims to identify the top genes in the breed and spread
them widely. This program ensures good linkages between flocks to
assist in accurate ASBV's.
The sheep that Coora has developed under this system of selection
are open faced, productive sheep with typical soft, white Australian wool
of 25 to 29 microns (ewes).
